Shiroda ZP member likely to join Congress party

Panaji/Ponda: Zilla panchayat member from Shiroda Constituency, Jaideep Shirodkar is likely to join the Congress party.

Shirodkar, son of former MLA Jaikrishna Shirodkar who was elected on MGP ticket from Shiroda, on Thursday, met All India Congress Committee secretary in-charge of Goa desk Chella Kumar and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar at the official residence of the Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar in Altinho, Panaji where an informal discussion was held on his entry in the party.

‘’I will join the Congress party shortly to contest the by-poll from Shiroda on Congress ticket,’’ Shirodkar said in a statement issued late Thursday evening. He said that the discussions with Congress leaders were ‘fruitful,’

There was no official statement issued by Congress on Shirodkar’s candidature, however, sources informed that the Congress workers from the Shiroda, who are upset with Subhash Shirodkar after he resigned and joined hands with the BJP have recommended Jaideep’s name as one of the probable candidates for the by-election. After Subhash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte’s entry in the BJP, the Congress is currently on the job to reconstitute Shiroda and Mandrem block and prepare for the by-polls, which will be held in the next six months.
