SIT questions mining trader Ghotge

Panjim: Mining trader Prasanna Ghotge was on Monday interrogated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the illegal mining case. Ghotge, owner of PVG group was questioned for the entire day on Monday. He has been asked to depose on July 23 for further interrogation. The fresh development has again pointed fingers at former government officials and a former mines minister for allowing illegal activity.

SIT officials said Ghotge was interrogated for his role in procuring unaccounted iron ore worth over Rs 500 crore. SIT is investigating in parallel different exporters who had purchased unaccounted iron ore from him and Philip Jacob, who was earlier arrested and later released. “This unaccounted iron ore could be exported out of Goa due to the blessings of different govt departments and influential mines minister in Goa during the period 2007-2012,” said the officer.
