Solving Mhadei issue to be top priority, says Parrikar

Panjim: Stating that a solution to the ongoing crisis surrounding the dissolution of Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT) would be his top priority, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assured that the ‘State interest would be protected’.Speaking to media persons after winning the trust vote, Parrikar said he will work out a solution to the matter. “I will tell you exactly what government has done on the matter next week. But I assure that we will continue our battle. I will ensure that the State interest is protected,” he said.
The Chief Minister was asked about the dissolution of MWDT with the introduction of a bill in the Parliament for a common permanent Inter-State River Water Dispute Tribunal and about withdrawal of permission to Additional Solicitor General of Indis Atmaram Nadkarni to appear on behalf of the State before the tribunal.
Meanwhile, sources confirmed that the Prime Minister’s Office through a verbal communication to the Chief Minister has accepted the plea to allow Nadkarni to continue representing Goa before the MWDT.Last month the Union Law Ministry had withdrawn the permission earlier given to the Additional Solicitor General citing a clash of interest. Accordingly, the State government had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention in the matter. [H]
