Talent shines at Fantasia 2018

Anjuna’s ‘Flea market’ is one of the most popular tourist draws of the state since yesteryears. In a situation like this, St Michael’s Convent High School run by the Sisters of the Congregation of Holy Family of Nazareth, Sancoale, has stood tall in the thick and thin. St Michael’s is the name in the North and its students now bring laurels to the Institution. Nearly a decade and there’s no stopping with the hard working members on the staff under the guidance of the eloquent Headmistress Rev Sr Liberata(Libia) Fernandes sfn.

‘Fantasia’, a cultural event at St Michael’s Convent High School Vagator, Anjuna, had its seventh edition last month. The two-day extravaganza had all the attributes of professionalism and finesse as every talent that unfolded on the stage was of the highest calibre. The lighting of the traditional lamp set the tone for the day. The special highlights of the evening were the Opera ‘Zolti Jinn’ commemorating the 125th birth anniversary of the founder Rev Fr Faustino De Souza, which showcased every essence of his life while he worked in the vineyard of the Lord; it was beautifully brought out by the Holy Family Sisters of Nazareth, Sancoale. Dr Varun Carvalho enthralled the audience with his live performance. Smooth Band, Rabin and Allison captured the breath of every one with their mesmerising singing. The DFDA (David Furtado Dance Academy) took the stage like a whirlwind with their feet tapping and graceful performance of the tiny tots.

Dramabaz, various solo and group dances, skits, harmonies, carol singing, an ex-student performance highlighted the talent that St Michael’s School has been producing. Some of the off stage events included nail painting, mehendi and t- shirt painting.

The guests who graced the occasion were Dr Fenton D’Souza, architect Tulio D’Souza, Savio Almeida, Sarpanch of the village and Steve D’Souza (Proprietor Hill Top), who lauded the efforts of the Headmistress and the entire staff in nurturing and shaping the students for excellence. The wholehearted support of the PTA enabled the success of the programme.

Dr Fenton D’Souza and Tulio D’Souza awarded The Samrat Award to Pearl Carvalho along with Headmistress Rev Sr Liberata Fernandes sfn. Two students, Rajvi Naik and Karan Sutar, who had won the Second Place at the ‘Kala Utsav’ were also felicitated. [H]
