Three cars damaged at govt quarters

Panjim: After a spate of burglaries and attempted burglaries at Altinho, three cars parked across the government quarters were, during the wee hours of Sunday, attacked.

In the attack, the windshield of a car was smashed; door handle of another broken and the tyres of a third were punctured.

Two complaints were lodged in this regard alleging that the manner in which the cars were attacked, it was evident that unknown miscreant(s) tried to steal belongings from their vehicles.

Complainant Ritesh Srivastav, whose Celerio car was attacked, told Herald that a small amount of cash kept near the dashboard was missing and blood stains were found on the car stereo.

“The windshield has been smashed; the car bumper, side mirror and other parts of the car have been damaged. I have filed a police complaint; however, at the time of filing the police complaint and during the panchanama, I did not notice that a small amount of cash, which was kept near the dashboard, was missing,” he said adding, he would file a supplementary complaint to the police giving an update about the incident.

Prakash Kalangutkar, another complainant whose swift car was damaged in the attack, alleged that the door handle of his car was broken. This, he said, indicates an attempt at theft.

The incidents occurred barely 100 mtrs away from the government accommodation of the senior police officers and bureaucrats.

This is not the first time that vehicles parked near the government quarters at Altinho have been attacked. Similar incidents have been occurring since last few years.

The local police swung into action, after the Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh and North Goa SP Chandan Chaudhary were informed about the crime.

Incidentally, Altinho was in the news some days ago after several occupants of government quarters including police colony had complained about a series of burglaries and burglary attempts.

The patrolling team had then zeroed in on a 22-year-old youth from Belgaum for suspiciously moving around the locality during the late hours. He was arrested and also found in possession of a car which was believed to be stolen from his native State.

Meanwhile, following the attack on three cars on Sunday night, the police have reactivated patrolling. [H]
