LATERITE STONE MINE

Goa has a peculiar soft rock formation popularly known as LATERITE. This formation can be cut by mechanical cutters. Cut stones are extensively used in building constructions in Goa.

PROCESS
The process consists of marking lines on horizontal base of formation. The cutters are then moved on these lines with desired depth of stone. Stones are dislodged manually and transported to construction site.

    

One such laterite stone mine is located in village KERI. A visit to this site will be interesting to see the actual process.
