Vendors and customers worried over increase of stray cattle in Sanguem

Sanguem: The increasing number of stray cattle in the Sanguem Municipal market area has become a matter of concern both for the market vendors and customers. At times the stray cattle are creating havoc in the market areas causing loss to the market traders and customers as well.

While earlier the municipality had a devoted pound keeper to tackle the stray cattle menace, the service presently stands discontinued after the promotion of the pound keeper to a higher post in the council. Since then, the stray cattle have been moving freely in the market area raising concern among the market traders.

The stray cattle are reported to be damaging goods and other materials kept on display by the traders and are reported to be eating anything that is kept outside. Incidentally, the customers are also not spared. The stray cattle take every opportunity to eat whatever that is left unattended.

This happens especially to owners of two wheelers who often leave their purchased goods on the vehicle and walk back in to buy additional items.

Sanguem Block Youth Congress (I) President Mesiah D’Costa claimed that the stray cattle are even damaging two wheelers parked in the market during their fights. D’Costa has appealed to the municipality to take measures to tackle the stray cattle menace in the town area.

Sanguem Municipal Council Chairperson Romualdo Fernandes informed of the council having seized with the matter and that due steps would be taken to solve the issue. [H]
