Panjim: Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) has said that transportation of minor minerals, without installation of Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) on the vehicles after November 1, would be termed as illegal, irrespective of necessary permits and other documents.
In a bid to regulate transportation of minor minerals within the State, DMG had directed in January that vehicle owners must register themselves and the vehicles by installing VTS with the department before April 1, 2018, which was later extended to November 1.
DMG director Prasanna Acharya said any transportation activities carried out after November 1, without use of VTS will be deemed to be illegal transportation activity irrespective of possession of necessary documents.
The directions are applicable even to contractors who use vehicles registered outside Goa for transportation of minor minerals in the State.
The move aims at curbing illegal mining of minerals, proper collection of government revenue, public safety and proper accounting of minerals extracted in the State.
For the last couple of months, several vehicles had been confiscated by the department for illegal transportation of minerals like sand, basalt, laterite, etc. [H]
