Will strive hard to provide 24-hr power supply, says Cabral

Curchorem: Curchorem MLA and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, on Monday, said that “I will strive hard to provide 24 hour power supply not only in my constituency but in the whole state.”

Cabral was speaking during the function held at Curchorem electricity office on the occasion of launching of underground power cabling work and commissioning of 11kV Assolda Xelvona feeder, from 33/11 kV sub-station, at Pontemol in the Curchorem constituency.

Others who were present included CCMC chairperson Felix Fernandes, councillors Vishwas Sawant Dessai, Tony Fernandes, Jasmin Braganza, Assoldsa sarpanch Sunita Naik, deputy sarpanch Tony Fernandes, panchas Manoj Naik and Sushant Naik, Xeldem sarpanch Pramod Dessai, and chief electrical engineer Reddy.

The areas covered under the project are Curchorem market, Guardian Angel School, Vastwada, Khandiwada, part of Pontemol, Bansai, Xelvona, and Morialem.

The Minister said that “electricity is being supplied to Goa by other states. If we want to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the state, there is a need to establish sub-stations.”

He sought co-operation from the landlords, who will have to issue NOCs to establish sub-stations in the interest of the people.

He further appealed to the employees of electricity department to work sincerely to achieve the goal, and assured that “the workers working on a contract basis will be made permanent in their job after taking into consideration their devotion to the work.”

Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that over a couple of decades Curchorem town has been in the mining zone, and due to this the overhead high tension and low tension electrical cables have been exposed to oxidisation.

“The overhead cables have also aged and damaged due to the falling of trees in abnormal weather conditions and due to accidents caused by ore transporting trucks. As such, this network could not deliver a standard uninterrupted power supply to the consumers in Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council area,” he said.

In the year 2016, Curchorem MLA took a deep interest in the underground power cabling project and put in his efforts towards making the project a reality, and subsequently, work order was issued on March 13, 2018, he added. [NT]
