Curchorem: Goa Pradesh Youth Congress launched Chalo Panchayat Ward Abhiyan at the hands of Chief Guest AICC Secretary and Youth Congress In-Charge Krishna Allavaru at Sports Complex hall, Borimoll, Quepem on Sunday.
On the occasion, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President (GPCC) Girish Chodankar congratulated AICC President Rahul Gandhi for giving a very unique programme to Youth Congress to organise the Abhiyan where youth could get an opportunity to connect the people directly and build up their leadership qualities by understanding the politics from grassroots level.
Attacking Narendra Modi as well as the State government for their wrong doings, corruption and failures, Chodankar said that government is responsible for drug abuse among the youth. “It is a very serious issue today as it destroys them and their families and it will affect future generation too,” he said.
“The government has failed to take any action till now against the office bearers of BJP in whose godawn 100 kgs Catamine drugs were found during a raid and that is why the drug trade is flourishing in Goa because of direct involvement of some BJP leaders in it,” Chodankar said and urged the youth to stay away from this menace and develop better skills to go for self-employment as the BJP government completely failed to create any jobs.
He also informed that in Goa, Youth Congress through their programme Chalo Panchayat Ward Abhiyan will join Congress party’s programme Jan Sampark Abhiyan from Monday so that they can jointly do the house to house visits in every constituency.
“It is the need of the hour that government must strengthen and implement the State Sports and Youth policies which was started by the Congress government for the upliftment of sports and the youth,” former chief minister Digamber Kamat said and informed that during his stint as CM, Goa was the first State in the country to have its own sports and cultural policy, but the present government has completely failed to continue it.
He also appealed to the youth to work in the Shiroda and Mandrem constituencie to ensure the defeat of defectors Subash Shirodkar and Dayanand Sopte.
On corruption of Central government, Allavaru said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to keep his promise of giving corruption free government as he directly transferred Rs 30,000 crore to Anil Ambani in the Rafale scam. “He paid Rs1,600 crore when the same deal was negotiated for Rs 560 crore by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,” Allavaru informed.
“Why has the government imposed so many taxes on the common man? Why the prices of petrol and diesel not reduced? Where are the two crore jobs per year as promised? Allavaru asked and said that on top the youth of this country has lost one crore jobs and destroyed business due to demonetization.
He also said that Modi had promised 1.5 times more minimum support price to their products, but the reality is that number of suicides of farmers and labourers in rural areas is mounting and that’s why they stopped releasing the official data.
Opposition Leader Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar said that the Central as well as State governments have failed to address and solve the issues including local mining and that is the reason why the prime minister is not facing the press fearing that reporters might ask him questions that he would not able to answer.
“AICC President Rahul Gandhi is always available to the press and answers any question put to him without hesitation,” Kavlekar said. [H]
